Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi has bounced back with a bang in the action-packed film ‘Maharaja’, receiving praise for his performance after a series of less impactful lead roles. The movie, directed by Nithilan Saminathan, has garnered positive reviews from audiences, particularly for its clever writing and engaging execution.

Malayalam writer Vivek Ranjith took to Twitter to commend ‘Maharaja’, highlighting Vijay Sethupathi’s return to form in a lead role. He tweeted, “Excellent Vijay Sethupathy is back in form in a lead role after a long time. Clever writing, very engagingly made. Humor was great too. I could guess the big final reveal, yet it was interesting to see how it came together. I felt emotionally distant, yet the movie worked for me. The movie is super violent. Don’t take your children for it.”

However, Ranjith’s review didn’t spare criticism for Anurag Kashyap, who played a pivotal role in the film. Without naming Kashyap directly, Ranjith pointed out, “And one of India’s most respected directors is acting in a pivotal role in a language he doesn’t know. He should at least take half the effort that all the Bollywood actresses from the 90s who worked in the south took in at least trying to give proper lip movements to his dialogues, at least in crucial scenes. His shots alone looked like a dubbing film in an otherwise very gritty and realistically done film. And the fact that he’s a very mediocre actor didn’t help either. A better actor would have elevated that solid role to another level.”

‘Maharaja’ follows the story of a barber seeking revenge after his home is burglarized, with his cryptic statement to the police about his “lakshmi” being taken, adding intrigue to the plot. The film features a strong cast, including Anurag Kashyap, Vijay Sethupathi, Mamta Mohandas, and Samarth Kaimliya, blending elements of action and mystery.
