ISRO Set To Script History As 2 Indian Satellites Close In For "Handshake"

Sriharikota:

Two Indian satellites are now just 15 metres away in space and are closing in for an “exciting handshake”, the Indian space agency said early Sunday in an update on its historic Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX) mission.

“At 15m we see each other clearer and clearer, we are just 50 feet away for an exciting handshake,” said the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) ISRO in its latest update.

The two satellites, SDX01 (Chaser) and SDX02 (Target), are part of SpaDeX mission that was launched on December 30. A PSLV C60 rocket had lifted off with the two satellites from Sriharikota and placed into a 475-kilometre circular orbit.

ISRO had postponed the two satellites’ historic docking twice with the space agency chief, Dr S Somnath, confirming Friday that the satellites are in good health and safe.
