On January 21, 2025, Russian Wikinews attended Russian photographer Viktor Pinchuk’s new exhibition in Cairo, Egypt.

The Russian Center for Science and Culture, located in the third largest city in Africa (also known as the “Russian House in Cairo”) presented to the residents of the metropolis a personal photo exhibition of the Crimean traveler Viktor Pinchuk “Egypt of the Early 2000s”, which included works created during several visits to the oldest country in the world. The cities of Cairo, Alexandria, Hurghada, many small villages where the author captured the life and everyday life of ordinary people and, of course, the pyramids, including the relatively little-known ones in Faiyum this is far from a complete list of topics. Some photographs display details typical of that period, for example, a tangerine seller at the Khan al-Khalili market is depicted with a price tag indicating the cost of the fruit “1 pound“.

When creating the photo collection, the author used a wide range of genres, styles and trends: street photography, night photography, humanistic photography, objective (unbiased) photography, and this is no coincidence: Viktor Pinchuk is the creator of the textbook “Basics of fine-art photography “ in two versions — in Russian and English, which focuses on this topic.

Visitors looked at the collection of photographs with genuine interest. It is possible that some of them recognized themselves or their friends in the photos.
