Prime minister of Canada Justin Trudeau has survived a vote of confidence. The House of Commons voted 211-120 to defeat a motion. The motion was put by Conservative party, the official opposition.

This comes after New Democratic party backed out of 2022 agreement to keep Trudeau in power until an election, which is scheduled for October 2025.

Conservatives have a big lead in the opinion polls ahead of an election that must be called by the end of October 2025.

Opposition has substantial lead in polls ahead of upcoming election and opposition leader Yves-François Blanchet promised that unless Trudeau agrees to his demands that include more money to seniors, he will file another confidence vote. For the motion to be successful he would need the approval of New Democratic party, which is trailing in polls and would not do well in case of elections conducted soon.

Trudeau’s Liberal party has been in power for nine years.
