On Sunday, two Russian oil tankers wrecked and sank in the Kerch Strait in the Black Sea, which caused an oil spill.[Source]

The precise nature of the spill remained unknown.[Source] Satalite data indicated that 3,000 tonnes of oil had leaked from the tankers.[Source]
The ships were carrying a combined total of 29 crew and personnel. According to the BBC, one person was killed.[Source] According to The Guardian, eleven additional crew members were hospitalized for hypothermia.
A rescue effort was put into effect, and consisted of helicopters and tugboats. It was eventually called off due to suboptimal weather conditions.[Source]

Two days later, a third tanker that was carrying mazut sent out a distress signal after discovering a leak on board, though the Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry said this situation was not critical.[Source]
