Due to the severe floods that have hit Central Europe, including Poland, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that the government will declare a state of disaster alongside working on receiving EU aid. This would be the first time that a state of disaster has been declared.
Emergency services will be able to order an evacution, send law enforcement to guard property and ban people from leaving an area, when movement isn’t safe. The state of emergency will only be in effect up to 30 days, unless it is prolonged by the Sejm.
17,000 people in the Kłodzko area are cut off from power, internet and phone connections are down.
In some places, well and tap water is not safe for drinking.
Czech Mi-17s have been sent to south-west regions of Poland affected by the disaster.
So far, the floods have claimed the lives of at least 8 people.
