On Thursday, at 5:30 P.M. local time (11:30 P.M. UTC) SpaceX’s Starship launched on its eighth test flight from SpaceX’s Starbase launch site near Brownsville, Texas. The booster was successfully caught by the chopsticks and recovered for the third time in a row. At around T+ 8 minutes into the launch, multiple engines cutoff unexpectedly on the upper stage of the vehicle. This caused the vehicle to spin before communication was lost shortly after. Had the flight gone successfully, Starship was expected to deploy demo Starlink satellites.
The flight was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but was delayed. According to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, the scrub was because there were “too many question marks.”
