On Thursday, Richard Blumenthal, US Senator from Connecticut
The White House said that the drones were not involved in malicious activity.[Source]
White House national security spokesperson John Kirby said, “upon review of available imagery, it appears that many of the reported sightings are actually manned aircraft that are being operated lawfully” and affirmed that there was no evidence of foreign involvement.[Source]
Lawmakers from the states where there were reported sightings of the drones have expressed their frustration with a lack of response from the White House.[Source]
Republican lawmakers from New Jersey Chris Smith and Jeff Van Drew had previously called for the drones to be shot out of the sky, and Van Drew surmised that the drones could have originated from an Iranian “mothership” located off the Atlantic coast, a statement that the Pentagon challenged.[Source]
